Core Beliefs

Our core beliefs makes the Grand Mesa Choice Academy a special place and are the guiding principles upon which the school operates. These core beliefs embrace the mission statement of the school district:  Caring, Challenging, Learning:  Every Student, Every Day. We live and teach each day by this mission statement and the core beliefs listed below.

We believe:

  • all students must feel cared for and have their individual needs recognized.
  • all students need to develop a strong relationship with staff in order to be a successful student at DOS.
  • all students will be more successful when they have an adult advocate.
  • all students will benefit from learning to give to others, and that it is through service learning and leadership though service that students begin to believe in themselves and to connect to the community in a positive way.
  • all students must learn to read, write, and do mathematics in order to be able to move on to post-secondary learning or to a job; and so they can be productive citizens.
  • all students have the ability to earn a high school diploma
  • that when you care for students, you help them be accountable and take responsibility for their education and their behaviors.
  • discipline is a tool used to affect a change in behavior, not to punish.
